Generator
South River Power Generation Corporation (SRPGC) owns and operates an 800 kW waterpower facility, which was commissioned in the summer of 2010. SRPGC is wholly-owned by the Village of South River, a municipality in Central Ontario located on Highway 11 between Huntsville and North Bay. The new facility was built on a historically significant site, where a generating station operated from the early 1900s, supplying electricity to the community prior to its connection to the provincial grid in the 1960s. The new facility operates under a RESOP contract. The decade-long development process was spearheaded by the municipal council, and is an excellent example of successful collaboration between a community, individual citizens, and various agencies of the Province of Ontario.
